It was the early '90s, and I was working
as an artist producing yellow page ads for Pacific Bell.
Because it was rather tedious work, and I entertained
the idea of possibly breaking into the comic book industry,
as I had wanted to do when I was younger. I didn't have
any samples of recent comic book art that I had done,
so I came upon the idea of drawing a sixteen page story
to show what I could do. Writing is not my strong suit,
so I decided to try to tell the story with no dialog
or narration whatsoever. After all, isn't that the definition
of a good comic book artist? My idea was to have parallel
stories, one told of a distant past, and one in present
day. I know that dinosaurs didn't exist at the same
time as humans, but I really like dinosaurs, and I wanted
them in the story. Well, after I left my job producing
yellow pages, I started my own business doing computer
graphics, so I never did get to bust into the comic
book field. My story collected dust. When I decided
to put up my own web page, my girl friend told me she
would really like it if I included my comic book story...so
here it is. Looking back, I'm not too happy with the
art, but I've seen worse. I still think the story is
easy to follow, but I'm so close to the project that
it's really hard to know for sure. And now, I hope you
enjoy SHELTER.
