| Back
in 1993, a software company
called ID released an action/strategy game called DOOM.
It became an unprecidented hit, combining exciting game
play with some very innovative thinking aimed at prolonging
the game's life in the hearts of users. ID made it possible
for ordinary people to create their own add-on levels
(as long as they had the proper software), change textures,
and even make their own monsters (if you were willing
to invest a lot of time). I discovered the game in 1994,
and immediately fell in love with it. |
Unfortunately,
I had to wait for a while before they would release
the game on the computer platform of my choice, the
Macintosh. Doom has been around for quite a few years
now, and newer and more sophisticated first-person-shooters
have come out. I like QUAKE, and DUKE NUKEM is a blast,
but I still find I enjoy playing DOOM the most. Maybe
it's because I like making my own levels, or maybe it's
because it's just the best game ever. In any case, this
page is for those of you still playing DOOM. Here are
a few of my wads... |

HELLonHOLIDAY
This is my first wad and still
one of my favorites. You need all three keys to finish,
and you will have to do some backtracking. The color
scheme tends to be red and green, therefore I thought
it had a nice holiday feel to it. It can be a bit
difficult in spots...don't waste your ammo. There are
a few secret areas if you can find them, and there
is a Cyberdemon in one of the secret areas in the
most difficult setting.

NUKE
TUNNELS
My second try at making a wad,
and not a bad effort. After you get past the first
few hurdles, you have a choice of three tunnels to
take to get outside of the waste complex. You could
play three times and take a different path each time.
On the now defunct "WAD OF THE DAY" site,
elf66 said this about NUKE TUNNELS: He's done it again!
An awesome level from Neil Riehle who should by now
be synonymous with top notch levels. This Ultimate
Doom wad starts you off very high up, but, soon puts
you in your place running for your life. Great design
and excellent resource management make this an extremely
tough level to beat. Top notch!

SPACEDETH
This wad was supposed to be
a huge space station, inspired by the TV show, BABYLON
5. The result did not live up to my expectations,
but I put it here for you to judge for yourself. The
scenerio is as follows: The
colonial space station in sector 13d has been overrun
by unknown invaders. Communications with the station
are out, and any rescue mission launched is months
away. By sheer coincidence, you are nearby scouting
uncharted planets for colonization. Your new orders
are to fly a shuttle close to the station while avoiding
detection, teleport on board, look for survivors and
exterminate anything else that moves. Then, you are
to find the nuclear reactor and set it to self destruct,
so that the aliens can't reinfest and adapt our technologies
for their own uses.

3
WAYS
By now you can probably see
that I like making big levels. I had intended to make
this one much bigger, but the software wouldn't let
me build it any larger than this. There's three directions
for you to choose from when you start out. Don't forget
to get your rifle. One of the environments is a prison
with a courtyard, another is a sort of warehouse complex.
You can exit the level from any of the three environments,
but you have to have gone through all three to access
the exit switch.
