HOMALOCEPHALE
A group of dinosaurs called the pachycephalosaurs
developed domed or thickened skull bones. The purpose
of this adaptation is not clear, but there were several
species of these bone-headed dinosaurs living in the
late cretaceous. One of these was HOMALOCEPHALE,
a small, flat-headed pachycephalosaur. This herbivore
had a stiffened tail to help keep it balanced when
it walked, and bony knobs on its skull. A nearly complete
skeleton was found in Mongolia in 1901, but the behavior
of this dinosaur cannot be determined as there has
not been a discovery of a group bone bed or an egg
site.
